Prevention PLUS, Inc. was founded in 1986 as a Teen Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program, providing safe and drug free alternatives to high risk youth, including: educational services, job training, and community service and improvement projects. In 1999, many of the youth who were part of the Teen Center were looking for other options through which they could complete their education. A program was formed and registered through the Home School division of Clayton County Public Schools. In 2000, Forest Park Street School was officially established. In 2002, the school achieved full accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Independent Study, allowing Forest Park Street School students to be eligible for the HOPE scholarship. In 2005, the school achieved full accreditation through the Georgia Accrediting Commission and in 2007, full accredition though SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools). In 2007, Prevention PLUS began providing credit recovery to Clayton County Public School students to help them complete missing credits needed for graduation. The organization also established a dual credit/joint enrollment program with Atlanta Technical College and Clayton State University.
Prevention PLUS, Inc. has graduated more than 300 students from its programs. Today, more than 150 students are enrolled in Prevention PLUS, Inc programs including Forest Park Street School, Street School Academy and YouthBuild.
